I guess only the bear part of the title is correct but OH MY!
A few weeks ago we watched a documentary on TV about Alaskan wildlife. Bears breaking into homes, moose charging people and more. I was starting to doubt my sanity at being excited about moving to Alaska. Then we went to the shooting range.
So it looks like I can handle a gun fairly well. Thank you Jake and Kevin for the pointers! Do I think I'd be levelheaded enough to actually shoot a bear (or a moose for that matter!) when it comes charging at me? In one word. NO. Heck, I'd do the exact opposite of what I should be doing. I'd RUN.
Sadly, Jake and the dogs are faster than I am...
The other day Jake decided it would be a good idea to tell me about an incident that happened a few hours north of Anchorage. Here's a link to the story. Grizzly Attack I am a little paranoid about the whole bear thing now. It didn't help that I am now looking at pictures that were posted on the Alaska Daily News website. Bear sightings in Anchorage and elsewhere in Alaska. My *favorite* is this one:
Can you say heart attack? I don't think I'd be calmly standing on the other side of that GLASS door to take a picture. What are we getting ourselves into?!

very very scary. but look at all the people living there that haven't had a bear come to their front door. i'm sure you'll be fine!
ReplyDeletelove the title, btw. ;)
I'm not really too worried. I will be super vigilant, though and make sure there aren't any bears or moose waiting for me or the pups before I open the door!
ReplyDeleteDid you see? I was able to put OLU smilies in the post :)
You will be fine my friend!! Any bear is going to run from that kinda accuracy!
ReplyDeleteSheesh, Catie! That does sound scary... Make sure to have figured everything til we come to visit.
ReplyDeleteOh and David didn't get the Anchorage layover :(
